Rib Charter /Volvo Ocean Race 2018
For the first time in a decade, a British City has been selected to host the Volvo Ocean Race. Cardiff is fully embracing the spectacle; the waterfront area is being transformed into a race village to share the excitement and 'buzz' of the race with the influx of visitors that the V.O.R always attracts.
The race village opens on 27th May 2018 for a two week celebration. The boats will arrive in port on 8th June; the race leg to Gothenburg will begin on 10th June.
The Volvo Ocean Race began in 1973 as The Whitbread Round The World Race, and was based on the south coast of the UK for 35 years before moving to Alicante in Spain. The race is now established as one of the big three sailing events in the world alongside the America's Cup and Olympic Games.
About the Race
The Volvo Ocean Race started from Alicante in October 2017. The race is split into a series of thirteen legs visiting twelve cities in six continents before finishing in Alicante. The competing teams will race on the Volvo Ocean 65 one-design, a custom designed class of boats that cannot be modified.
