Vendee Globe 2016

On Sunday 6th November 2016 over 300,000 spectators lined the shore in Les Sables d’Olonne as the 29 competitors set sail for the 2016/17 Vendee Globe

The conditions were exceptional, with blue skies, a slight chop and approx 14 knot north easterly winds. At midday the HRH Prince Albert II of Monaco signalled the start of this extreme non-stop solo round the world race. The competitors will follow a course west to east via the 3 major capes of Good Hope, Leeuwin and the Horn.

SRC took a fleet of Ribs over to Les Sables d’Olonne to follow Alex Thomson on his Hugo Boss IMOCA yacht for the start. What an experience! The atmosphere from French supporters  was electric with spectators waving furiously and crowds shouting good luck.

Good luck to Alex Thomson, we will be tracking your progress.
