RNLI Alternative Boat Race

Something different on the Thames…

Sunday 6th April 2014 wasn’t only the day for the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, but also the first ever RNLI Alternative Boat Race.

The Alternative Boat Race saw 250 sponsored model lifeboats race along the tideway just upriver of the official Boat Race finish line. The event was held to help raise money for the charity as volunteer crews rely on support and events such as this to make their 700+ launches a year possible. 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist rower Rob Williams (pictured below) started the race.

One of our slightly larger vessels, a 8.8m Rib was up on the Thames to help with the event for which the organiser gave great feedback;

‘I would like to pass on my thanks to John (SRC skipper), John was nothing but helpful and professional throughout the day and the RIB was in superb condition.’

We always enjoy being part of something a bit different!
