Round The Island Race 2017

One of the largest yacht races in the world and the 4th largest participation event in the UK takes place right on our doorstep! The Round the Island Race, which is held on the 1st July this year, is a sight to behold. With over 1,600 boats and around 16,000 sailors, this really is a landmark event.

The race accepts all classes of boats to compete against one another for the much sought after Gold Roman Bowl. All entrants are rated based on a handicap system, meaning that a modest family boat sailed beautifully has the chance to beat a modern high speed trimaran.

The course measures 50 nautical miles around the Isle of Wight with the first races this year starting at 05.00am. If you’re not a sailor yourself but are still interested in watching the race, Solent Rib Charter offer the best seats in the house by allowing guests to follow the action on our Ribs throughout the day.
