George’s favourite charters of 2013

When we asked George which charter was his favourite of 2013 he struggled to pinpoint one, so instead decided to send us every photo from work this year and debate his ‘best moment’. After a few conversations the top three were decided…

1. Meeting Olympic Gold Medalist Sir Matt Pinsent CBE during Cowes Week who was part of the crew on the Volvo Ocean Race Yacht for Aberdeen Asset Management. George said ‘I transferred him by Rib back to Town Quay in Southampton at the end of the day, ┬áhe was friendly and chatty, and had caught the sun nearly as much as me!’

2. Taking a group of spectators out to see the yachts depart for the start of the Round the World Clipper Race from St Katherine’s Docks on the River Thames. ‘I had a group on-board waving off a family member who is taking part in the race for the full year, exciting times for them!’

3. The day following the Clipper Race saw the official start of the event further down the Thames Estuary. George along with John Oldridge had to relocate the rib and act as a media vessel, and follow the fleet for the start with photographers on-board. Initially the challenge was to launch the Rib from a long narrow slipway. George said ‘You can just about see the truck and rib at the end of the slipway, hope the picture gives you a sense of scale. John was almost moved to tears as he witnessed my magnificent reversing skills down this bad boy!’. John, are you supporting this claim?!

See you next summer George for plenty more A* reversing…
